Becoming a CCDP

Starting in 2006, the NSCDA, its members and other stakeholders began working towards the development and implementation of a certification process for Career Development Practitioners (CDPs). With the launch of the CCDP Program in 2014, Nova Scotia joined British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick in offering professional certification.

The NSCDA is leading the development and implementation of a voluntary certification process for career development practitioners (CDPs) in this province. Our process is a Recognition of Prior Learning / Competency based model. As you embark on the certification journey, please let us know if you have any questions or comments.

 

What do I need to begin?

The prerequisite for applying for our certification program is to have worked at least 3 years out of the last 5 in some aspect of career development. That’s about 5400 hours of full-time employment over the last 5 years.

 

How long will it take?

Going through the process usually takes 3 to 6 months.

 

What if I don’t have much experience?

You can still get started through our Career Pathways to Certification Program. This allows you to use the Career Development Practitioner candidate (CDPc) designation as you work with a mentor, and in consultation with the NSCDA Registrar. You will build on the skills you have, and acquire the ones you need to move forward into the CCDP process.
