Recognition of Prior Learning

The Nova Scotia Career Development’s Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) approach to Career Development Practitioner (CDP) certification sets the path for the NSCDA’s commitment to build RPL practices into our programs. While we work on that, we’re also:

  • Building RPL capacity within our membership through learning opportunities;
  • Connecting with the RPL community in Nova Scotia, across Canada and internationally;
  • Advocating for the integration of RPL practices into career development services.

RPL Projects

EMPOWERED: The Portfolio Career

This seven-session portfolio development program emphasizes the process of portfolio development and the value of the “portfolio mindset.” A train-the-trainer model allows practitioners to experience the process, which can be applied in multiple ways to support job seekers.

Digital Portfolio

The NSCDA’s Digital Portfolio course is available to members looking for a step-by-step approach to building their online portfolio.

Competency Mapping

Mapping our training to the National Competency Framework for Career Development Professionals will result in clear roadmaps for practitioners seeking to fill skills gaps or hone existing skills, and opportunities to RPL what they already know and can do.

Close to 200 participants converged upon the Halifax Convention Centre in October 2024 to learn about, share, and discuss RPL. The event was a resounding success and demonstrated the value of recognizing learning for individuals, organizations, communities and the economy.

Nova Scotia RPL Scan

The Coady Institute and the NSCDA are partnering to scan the scope and impact of existing RPL activity in the post-secondary, immigrant settlement, and career services sectors in Nova Scotia.
